Often seen in chronic illness, recovery phase, or post-viral states where underlying qi vacuity gives rise to empty heat.
Diagnosis TCM diagnosis based on pattern differentiation: combination of qi deficiency signs (fatigue, weak voice, shortness of breath) with empty heat signs (low-grade fever, thirst, irritability, red tongue).

Treatment

Conventional Treatment Supportive care, rest, nutritional support, management of underlying condition. May include antipyretics if fever is present, though often not indicated for empty heat patterns.
Herbal Treatment American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) to tonify qi and yin while clearing deficient heat; also consider herbs such as Astragalus (Huang Qi), Codonopsis (Dang Shen), and heat-clearing yin tonics like Rehmannia (Sheng Di Huang) or Dendrobium (Shi Hu). TCM formulas: Sheng Mai San, or modifications of Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang with heat-clearing additions.
Prevention Maintain balanced lifestyle, adequate rest, proper nutrition, avoid overexertion, manage stress to prevent qi depletion that can lead to empty heat.
Prognosis Generally good with appropriate rest, nutrition, and corrective herbal or TCM treatment; may become chronic if underlying qi deficiency is not addressed.
